This was the first thing I ever made:
And a year or so ago I made a baby blanket:
I bought Flea Market Style a couple of years ago and, like a few other members of this group, immediately fell in love with this blanket:

I want it. More specifically, I want to make it EXACTLY how it is pictured. This is a bit of a departure for me, as everything I ever make for myself is purple, pink, blue, and green. I am also very big on making up my own patterns and picking unique color combinations. But this seems like a new and different kind of challenge, so I am going to try it out. Also, I want to make it big enough for a queen size bed, which means I will have to make up a number of squares for myself (especially because not all of the squares can be exactly made out in the picture. For those of you who have seen the other book it is pictured in, does that picture show any more squares?).
I am undecided on a yarn to use. If I had all of the money in the world, I would use something expensive, but as I will never get rich teaching preschool, I need to be economical. I am thinking Cascade 220. I will head to Purl (in Soho, NYC) tomorrow (I work just a few blocks away from it) with a picture to see if that will work for me.

Hi and Welcome, I love your first ever Granny project...in hexagons too...they are still out of my reach. Your baby blanket in primary colours with its circles and squares is really interesting.
I know what you mean about liking to make projects 'your own' with colour choices and designs but your next project does look lovely enough to do exactly as shown, good luck with the yarn hunt! :0)
Hi Lindsey.
I really like your grannies, especially the baby blanket. They both look very contemporary and I love your colour choices.
I'm looking forward to seeing your progress on the Flea Market Style afghan. =]
awesome!! I love those hexagons!!
oooh what pretty colours and squares you have made in the past.
the blanket will bea deviation, but you'll enjoy it. just remember that sometimes when you try to make something EXACTLY, it never seems perfect enough.
I think your baby blanket is just perfect - love the colours, and the mix of circles and squares. Gorgeous. What pattern did you use for the squares, or is this one you just made up yourself?
love the babyblanket!! what pattern did you use? and the hexagons, are they difficult?
I totally agree about that blanket. That's what inspired me to make mine. And while it wasn't exactly the same I am super happy with mine. I sleep under it every night...it's made with alpaca/wool blend and it is so soft a gorgeous (and yes cost a bomb to make), but I'm too scared to wash it now!
