two weeks into making hexagons...

62. Folded.
I am beginning to feel a certain blanket-ness about it.
Your support has been a huge motivation, I got in a state of simply not knowing when to stop making the hexagons... Thank you!

When I think about all the time that it is consuming I better think in terms of "how often did I listen to my favourite movies while crocheting hexagons?". For example, making four of them equals watching Emma once... It's crazy, I got my copy of Emma just one week ago and already lost track of how often I have been "watching" it.
No need to tell you I almost memorised a good deal of its dialogues... Well, maybe I could make five hexagons would I not have to actually watch parts of the movie from time to time... that is slowing me down a little.
The blanket is awfully time consuming but I love making it. I have been writing a bit more about it on my blog, and again you can find more pictures here.

Thanks for reading and have fun crocheting!

It's a wonderful feeling when the project grows, isn't it? And for some reaso sewing something together is even greater because it grows so obviously when you put together thorse squares (or in this case, hexagons).

I've learned to sew in the ends as I go along though. Looking at yours ... what a daunting task ...

what a great looking blanket! i highly recommend watching 'Pride & Prejudice' (the slightly older, BBC tv series one with Colin Firth) while doing knitting/crochet. it's about 5 hrs long!

what method/stitch are you using to join your lovely hexagons together?

I love it! What kind of yarn are you using? I'm trying to get an idea of what yarns people like to use.

Whoa Moonie, You go girl!!! Speed crochet!!! Started June 12th?? I started my 'ghan in mid March and I have only 26 done. I checked out your other pix on flickr and I am amazed at your progress and such a beautiful blanket, too! It's really lovely, just lovely. Wonderful colors. How big is it gonna be? Can't wait to see it finished. Wow!

Thank you, thank you, thank you, you are so sweet, exactly what I need to stay crocheting those hexagons!

carola: First I crocheted over the loose ends to hide them but I decided against that method it since I didn't quite like how it looked. Surely it would be highly desirable to end up with the loose ends already woven in when the hexagons are all done... at least mine are sewn together ;-)

twellve: Couldn't agree more... that version of "Pride and Prejudice" is just perfect for crafting. I can't even guess how many times I have watched / listened to it.
I am joining the hexagons by crocheting them together during the last round - at the corners and at two points in between them. I try to make some photos for explanation, stay tuned!

maha: The yarn is a very soft merino 4 ply, washable.

annielizabeth: The pattern calls only for 103 blocks at a size of 116cm x 76.5cm but I am tempted to make it bigger because it would be too bad to stop that early after all that work I invested. I'd rather like to do this in a big way... but we'll see, maybe I have been running out of steam when time hs come to make the decision. In about one week we'll know!

Once again, thank you very much for your hexagon love!!!

It looks absolutely gorgeous! I'd love to try this pattern. Hmmmm...I wonder how easy it will be to buy Japanese craft books in Australia?

I've been watching North and South, by the BBC, as I've been crocheting. It's darker than Pride and Prejudice, but just as romantic. Highly recommended!

I absolutely love hexagons, so much so that even when I crochet coasters, I use a hexagon pattern which turns out just lovely.

Wow! Your blanket is just gorgeous. All those hexagons together, and in that great mix of colors, look folksy and quilty in that beautiful, vintage, Anthropologie way.
